Dancewear, Dance Shoes, and Accessories

It is designed to educate its viewers with a base knowledge of different articles needed to participate in various types of dance. There are some forms of dance that require specific types of footwear to participate in the movement.

Dance wear is relative to specific types of dance, as are dance shoes. Ballet is a style of dance that many other forms originate from. There are specific types of dancing shoes required to participate in Pointe ballet, and they are known as Pointe shoes. Dancing en Pointe is where a dancer is elevated onto their tiptoes and glides in and out of movements. It would be nearly impossible for a person to dance completely on the ends of their toes and that is where specially designed shoes come in handy. Pointe shoes have what is known as a box on the end of the shoe. The box is a hardened enclosure that is used to support the feet, and is flat at the end to serve as a platform base when dancing. The shank is a rigid piece of material that is used for arch support. These two features make up the important parts of Pointe shoes which enables dancers to participate in pointework.

Tap dance shoes are another example of an element that is necessary to participate in a specific type of dance. Tap shoes have the appearance of a normal dancing shoe; however, they have a metal plate attached to the bottom of the soles. This is where the shoe gets its name; it creates a tapping noise when a step is taken. Dancers are skilled in performing different combinations of steps to create different sounds with the same shoe. Mens dance shoes are also available in tap form. In fact, many of the famous tap dancers are men. Men can purchase any type of dance shoe, even Pointe shoes. For country themes, cowboy boots can be faked with a mock boot placed over the top of the tap shoe. This can be done with any style of shoe.

Belly dancing is a dance of seduction. The costumes are two peices, and most often have tassles or charms hanging from the top of the skirt. The fabric that is used, is the same type as used for a sari.

Ballroom dance shoes and salsa dance shoes are relatively the same. Women’s dance shoes are often somewhat strappy, have a moderate sized heel, are comfortable, and have a sole that allows for easy movement through twists and turns. Although, there isn’t a specific distinction between ballroom and salsa shoes, ballroom shoes tend to be a little more reserved in terms of appearance. Salsa is a very active dance, and the shoes can be used as a way to show pizzazz.

Exotic dancewear is sexy in appearance and is used to entice onlookers. Exotic wear often consists of pieces such as, lingerie, thongs, bikini tops, costumes, leather, and platform shoes. These types of outfits are used to tease and entice viewers; as a rule of thumb, the lesser the better. Typical exotic dancers are on a stage and use their costume as the initial attention grabber; this is typically why bright, bold patterns are used in the construction of the attire.
